Celebration of Art: Wrap up

June 29, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

Should have posted this a full year ago! Better late than never.

Friends, family & patrons,

Thank you celebrating Rachel's legacy as an artist. I could stop there. But that's not my way. Instead, I want to give everyone an update on the success of the show & related events, and let you know what John, Aaron & I have planned for the future. As I write this, books, prints & originals are arriving in mailboxes across the country and even a few international locales. If you ordered something and haven't received the item by the end of the week, let me know!

Most important to me is that between sales at the show, soon afterward, and the several paintings claimed by Aaron, John & myself, there are more than 20 original paintings & sketches now or soon to be hanging in honored places across the country & even around the world. Many had been in storage for years. That's a huge win. In addition we sold about 40 books, large & small, and dozens more ebooks. More than 50 prints sold (and I've hung a dozen more--they look so good!), a few dozen ebooks, hundreds of website visitors, and thousands of people reading the articles in the Jewish Journal, Beverly Citizen, Salem News and the Boston Globe's Globe North. Hundreds visited the show during the week.

And as a nice side effect, we've raised over $3000 so far which Aaron & I will soon donate to Northeast ARC. http://www.ne-arc.org/ In fact, that number is still growing as we're donating all proceeds through AT LEAST the end of the month to the group. So if you want to buy a copy of the book, a print, or even an original, there's no time like the present. There may also be smaller exhibits in the Beverly area (such as the Beverly Library or Northeast Art Community gallery) over the next year featuring a subset of paintings from the show, where you could have the chance to buy more art or just enjoy it once again.

And then, going forward, what next? First of all, I'd like to invite everyone to "like" the Facebook page and encourage other fans to do the same. I'll be posting a new painting or drawing every day or two, and updating it regularly with news & announcements. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rachel-Romes-Artworks/404679539583245

There is even more stuff on Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/photos/jakerome/sets/72157625911446697/ including ~150 paintings that I re-photographed earlier this month in preparation for future project. I think I did pretty good! http://www.flickr.com/groups/theicebox/discuss/72157630046174565/

Then, as an obvious fan of Rachel's artwork, I've added you to this mailing list which I expect to only use 3-4 times/year. And why would I contact anyone again? As noted, Mom created more than 600 great artworks, and the show did little more than scratch the surface. I'm planning on doing *something* every year. I'd love to have an annual event in the Carriage House, but that's a lot of work from across the country. However, I am already planning the 2nd book in the series. The format will be about the same, with paintings & essays mixed in. I'll have a book launch party, maybe on the east coast maybe on the west coast, definitely with some paintings and many more prints available for sale. And just like this year, all paintings in the book will available online as prints, and I expect we'll sell some more original paintings too.

So, that project won't start just yet. But I would like to invite all of Mom's friends & family to contribute an essay to future books. We all love reading stories about Mom as an artist & lover of life, so please share your own favorite memory. There's no length requirement, could be 1 sentence or 10,000 words. I'll make it work. No need to tell me now, but you are certainly welcome to do so!

Thanks again, and cheers.
